Message: Nicest Hampton Inn I've ever stayed at. I've had enough bad experiences with Hampton Inns around the country that I swore off the entire chain. This one almost changed my mind for the better. Almost.. This was the best hotel option for my initial trip, but the location changed and when I tried to call and asked for a fee free cancellation as a Diamond Member I was effectively told to pound sand. He was unapologetic and wouldn't budge. This happens with my line of work occasionally where I have to change hotels last minute. This was the first time I was unable to get the fee waived.. So I was stuck here for a night far from my work site. I checked out right away in the morning. The nice part was when I checked in I talked to the front desk staff on duty, who was different from the one I spoke to that morning, and she was apologetic and said she wished I'd have been able to get a hold of her because she would have waived the fee. Too late at that point, I was already there.. The service issue is the only reason for docking a star. The bad smell in the lobby from the pool being cleaned wasn't enough to deduct a star because hey, they were cleaning and renovating the pool. The stuff involved isn't going to be odor free, and there is only so much they can do to mitigate it.

Message: There is a $3 per night charge for parking a car in the Hampton parking lot. This is ridiculous for this location. When I questioned the charge on my credit card, I was told that this charge is disclosed on the Hampton website and is non-negotiable. For multi-night stays, there is no service to the room except upon request. Since there is no service, there should be no rating for Service. I will chose an alternative hotel in the future.

Message: As many of the other reviews noted, the first floor does have mild, lingering putrid scent, but it seems like steps have been taken to address it, as it wasn't as strong as other reviewers seem to indicate. Rooms are nice and clean. While my room didn't have any issues, 4 of my coworkers mentioned having problems with the plumbing (showers not draining, toilet clogging).. It's very close to a lot of different businesses in Matthews, everything is within walking distance, with the exception of maybe a gas station.. Continental breakfast is provided free of charge, the waffle batter for the waffle maker was very tasty. All of the cartons of milk that were in the frige were expired and tasted like poison, but as soon as I notified the front desk, they removed them all and placed fresh cartons in there. I never got any attitude when I had to approach the front desk with an issue.. All-in-all, for the price, it's a fairly nice hotel. There are certainly fancier hotels out there with more luxury, but they typically cost quite a bit more.

Message: We checked in pretty late and were helped by a nice women. We were given 2 keys for each room (2 total). The lobby was clean and the elevator was easy to reach. The parking was not the best as they filled up pretty quick, and have one side door entrance. We got 2 rooms that conjoined and they were both perfect. Very clean, beds were soft, tvs worked, we had mini fridge, tvs, microwaves, and a desk. We woke up to enjoy a wonderful breakfast spread in the lobby. The set up with tables could be better, it was really inconvenient having to ask other guests to scoot in because they have them lined up too close and blocking the tables in with others, made for a very rough and inconvenient breakfast. But over all it was a great stay!
